Graveworshippers are cursed
Funerals (Al-Janaa'iz) Bukhari :: Book 2 :: Volume 23 :: Hadith 472 Narrated 'Aisha:
Allah's Apostle in his fatal illness said, "Allah cursed the Jews and the Christians, for they built the places of worship at the graves of their prophets." And if that had not been the case, then the Prophet's grave would have been made prominent before the people. So (the Prophet ) was afraid, or the people were afraid that his grave might be taken as a place for worship.
*Note:Rasool Allah was afraid regarding graves and he informed Muslims about the Jews and christians taking of grave worshipping.Had he not informed his grave would have been made a prominent. That is why majority of Muslims do not worship his graves, majority do not go to his grave and ask him to fulfil their wishes but asking to make dua to Allah is allowed.
Shirk-at-Tâ'a. This aspect implies rendering obedience to any authority against the Order of Allah.
Almighty Allah says:
"They (Jews and Christians) took their Rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded (in the Torah and the Gospel) to worship none but One Ilâh (God i.e., Allah), Lâ ilâha illâ Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Praise and Glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him)." (5:9:31).
Once, while Allah's Messenger SAW was reciting the above Verse, 'Adi bin Hatim said, "O Allah's Prophet! They do not worship them (rabbis and monks)." Allah's Messenger said, "They certainly do. They (i.e. Rabbis and monks) made legal things illegal, and illegal things legal, and they (i.e. Jews and Christians) followed them; and by doing so they really worshipped them."(Narrated by Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Jarir). (Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.10, Page No. 114).
Points
1.Believing Rasool Allah salla lahu alaihi wa salla is omnipresent is shirk, asking him to fulfil wishes or asking him to help from calamities,or distress is shirk because its supplicating and supplication is itself worship
2.Believing any human, dead or alive is omnipresent or believing any pious person can come even after death to help is shirk.Asking him to fulfill wishes is shirk whether far away from grave or near grave is shirk.
Asking to pray
1.Going to graves and asking them[dead/grave occupants] to pray to Allah subhanawatala is not shirk .Because they dont supplicate to the dead but ask the dead to supplicate to Allah.
Asking Allah directly & asking Prophet Muhammad sallalahu alaihi wa sallam to pray to Allah & Seeing fulfilment of dua by presenting the highest rank of Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam to Allah subhanawatala is all allowed.
There are so many ayah via which dua's are made directly to Allah but the below ayah are also true.
The only point is ,why deny the bounty.
Intercession/waseela
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakatuhu
Types Of Intercession
Allah's Words: " to Allah belongs all intercession" Prove that intercession is of many different kinds and the scholars have mentioned eight of them:
1. Major Intercession: It is that which will fall upon the shoulders of the Prophet Muhammad after all the other Prophets and Messengers have refused to accept it on the Day of Resurrection: The people will ask all of the previous Prophets and Messengers to intercede with Allah on their behalf but they will refuse, saying: "Myself! Myself!" Then they will come to the Messenger of Allah , and he will accept, and go to his Rabb and prostrate before Him for as long as He wills, then he will be given permission to raise his head and intercede on behalf of the believing people, and none other than he shall be given this right and privilege.
2. Intercession for the People of Paradise: The Prophet’s [peace be upon him] intercession with Allah on behalf of the People of Paradise One Example:Muslim (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated (1528) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed for Abu Salamah and said: “O Allaah, forgive Abu Salamah and raise his status among those who are guided, and take good care of his family that he has left behind. Forgive us and him, O Lord of the Worlds, make his grave spacious for him and illuminate it for him
3. Intercession for the Disobedient Muslims: He will intercede with his Lord on behalf of those Muslims who may have committed sins of disobedience to their Rabb, Almighty, that they may not be placed in the Fire.
4. Intercession for the Disobedient People of Tawheed: He will intercede with Allah on behalf of those Muslims who have entered the
Hell-fire because of their sins, that they may be removed from it. The authentic narration concerning this has been widely reported and all of the
Companions and Ahl As-Sunnah are agreed upon it.
5. Intercession for Increasing the Reward of the People of Paradise: The Messenger of Allah will intercede on behalf of a people from amongst the People of Paradise, that they may have their reward increased and their status elevated; and there is none who disputes this. 6. Intercession of the Prophet for his Uncle: He will intercede on behalf of his uncle Abu Talib, that his punishment in the Hell-fire may be lightened.
7. Intercession of the Children: Those children who died while still below the age of reason will intercede on behalf of their believing parents.
8. Intercession of Some of the Believers for Others: It is authentically confirmed that some of the Believers will intercede on behalf of their believing brothers.
Allah Subhanawatala Commanded Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him] To Pray For Muslims
24: 62 Only those are Believers who believe in Allah and His Apostle: when they are with him on a matter requiring collective action they do not depart until they have asked for his leave: those who ask for thy leave are those who believe in Allah and His Apostle; so when they ask for thy leave for some business of theirs give leave to those of them whom thou wilt and ask Allah for their forgiveness: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.
3: 159 It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them. Wert thou severe or harsh-hearted they would have broken away from about thee; so pass over (their faults) and ask for (Allah's) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then when thou hast taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).
60: 12 O Prophet! when believing women come to thee to take the oath of fealty to thee that they will not associate in worship any other thing whatever with Allah that they will not steal that they will not commit adultery (or fornication) that they will not kill their children that they will not utter slander intentionally forging falsehood and that they will not disobey thee in any just matter then do thou receive their fealty and pray to Allah for the forgiveness (of their sins): for Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.
2: 286 On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray): "Our Lord! condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; Our Lord! lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; help us against those who stand against faith.
47: 19 Know therefore that there is no god but Allah and ask forgiveness for the fault and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes.
4: 64 We sent not an Apostle but to be obeyed in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only when they were unjust to themselves come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness and the Apostle had asked forgiveness for them they would have found Allah indeed Oft-Returning most Merciful.
ash-Shawkani said:
"There is no harm in tawassul through any one of the Prophets or Friends of Allah or scholars of knowledge... One who comes to the grave as a visitor (za'iran) and invokes Allah alone, using as his means the dead person in the grave, is as one who says: "O Allah, I am asking that you cure me from such-and-such, and I use as a means to You whatever this righteous servant of Yours possesses for worshipping You and striving for Your sake and learning and teaching purely and sincerely for You." Such as this, there is NO hesitation in declaring that it is permitted". ("al-Durr al-nadid fi ikhlas kalimat al-tawhid").
Why is means taken ,its due to great deeds of that believer.Life is all about deeds ,ever correct intentions are deeds. The waseela is taken due to the rank of that person & good deeds mark the rank.
Prophet Muhamamd sallalahu alaihi wa sallam is highest in ranks because of Allah's mercy & his greatest deeds.
Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam Is Informed
"Your deeds are presented to me. If they are good, I express my gratitude to Allah, and if the deeds are not good, then I pray to Allah for your forgiveness".
Haythami transmitted it in Majma'-uz-zawa'id (9:24) and said that that tradition had been reported by Bazzar (in his Musnad) and its sub-narrators are all of sahih (sound) hadith. 'Iraqi has confirmed the soundness of its chain of transmission in his book Tarh-ut-athrib fi sharh-it-taqrib (3:297). Ibn Sa'd has recorded it in at-Tabaqat-ul-kubra (2:194). Qadi 'Iyad has inscribed this tradiion in ashShifa (1:19); and Suyuti, recording it in al-Khasa'is-ul-kubra (2:281) and Manahil-us-sifa fi takhrij ahadith ash-Shifa (p.3) has commented that Ibn Abi Usamah in his Musnad has reproduced it through Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani and Bazzar in his Musnad who have relied on its narration by 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud with a sound chain of transmission. It has been endorsed by Khafaji and Mulla 'Ali Qari in their commentaries on ash-Shifa, i.e. Nasimur-riyad (1:102) and Sharh ash-Shifa (1:36) respectively. Hadith-scholar Ibn-ul-Jawzi has reproduced it in al-Wafa bi-ahwal-il-mustafa (2:809-10) from Bakr bin 'Abdullah and Anas bin Malik. Subki has copied this tradition in Shifa'-us-siqam fi ziyarat khayr-il-anam (p.34) from Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani and Ibn 'Abd-ul-Hadi in as-Sarim-ul-munki (p.266-7) has authenticated its veracity. Bazzar's tradition has also been recorded by Ibn Kathir in al-Bidayah wan-nihayah
(4:257). 'Asqalani narrated it through Bakr bin 'Abdullah al-Muzani in al-Matalib-ul-'aliyah (4:223#3853). 'Ali al-Hindi copied Ibn Sa'd's tradition in Kanz-ul-'ummal (11:407#31903) and from Harith (#31904). Nabhani related it in Hujjatullah 'alal'alamin fi mu'jazat sayyid-il-mursalin (p.713).
[Note:Deeds are presented to Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam Is itself a proof that he is not omnipresent, nor is he seeing all the deeds from his grave.]
Ibn al-Mubarak said: One of the Ansâr narrated to us from al-Minhal ibn `Amr that the latter hears Sa`id ibn al-Musayyib say: "Not one day passes except the Prophet's Community is shown to him morning and evening. He knows them by their marks [or names] and their actions, thereby giving witness concerning them. Allah said: {But how (will it be with them) when we bring of every people a witness, and We bring you (O Muhammad) a witness against these?} (4:41). (Laysa min yawmin illâ wa yu`radu fîhi `alâ al-nabiyyi ummatuhu ghuduwwatan wa `ashiyyan fa ya`rifuhum bi sîmâhum wa a`mâlihim fa lidhâlika yashhadu `alayhim. Yaqûlu Allâhu ta`âlâ...)12
12 Narrated by Ibn al-Mubarak in al-Zuhd (p. 42), Ibn Kathir (asmâ'ihim instead of sîmâhum) in his Tafsir (1:500), al-Qurtubi in al-Tadhkira (1:335), Ibn Hajar (asmâ'ihim instead of sîmâhum) in Fath al-Bari (1959 ed. 9:99), and al-Mubarakfuri (asmâ'ihim instead of sîmâhum) in Tuhfa al-Ahwadhi (8:300).
[Note: Those deeds which are bad of the ummah, for those deeds Prophet Muhammad sallalahu alaihi wa sallam will give witness against them on Judgement day]
But ...
He Does Not Know Everything Except wht Allah informs him.
Prophetic Commentary on the Qur'an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh)) Bukhari :: Book 6 :: Volume 60 :: Hadith 264
Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet delivered a sermon and said, "You (people) will be gathered before Allah (on the Day of Resurrection) bare-footed, naked and uncircumcised." (The Prophet then recited):-- 'As We began the first creation We shall repeat it. (It is) a promise We have undertaken and truly We shall do it.' and added, "The first man who will be dressed on the Day of Resurrection, will be Abraham. Lo! Some men from my followers will be brought and taken towards the left side, whereupon I will say, 'O Lord, (these are) my companions!' It will be said, 'You do not know what new things they introduced (into the religion) after you.' I will then say as the righteous pious slave, Jesus, said, 'I was a witness over them while I dwelt among them...(to His Statement)..and You are the Witness to all things.' (5.117) Then it will be said, '(O Muhammad) These people never stopped to apostate since you left them."
5:117. "Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allâh) did command me to say: 'Worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and warning to the Christians of the whole world).
The dead can hear near their graves.[only near graves]
Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (pbuh) (Al-Maghaazi) ,Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 314 Narrated Abu Talha
: On the day of Badr, the Prophet ordered that the corpses of twenty four leaders of Quraish should be thrown into one of the dirty dry wells of Badr. (It was a habit of the Prophet that whenever he conquered some people, he used to stay at the battle-field for three nights. So, on the third day of the battle of Badr, he ordered that his she-camel be saddled, then he set out, and his companions followed him saying among themselves." "Definitely he (i.e. the Prophet) is proceeding for some great purpose." When he halted at the edge of the well, he addressed the corpses of the Quraish infidels by their names and their fathers' names, "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so and O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Would it have pleased you if you had obeyed Allah and His Apostle? We have found true what our Lord promised us. Have you too found true what your Lord promised you? "'Umar said, "O Allah's Apostle! You are speaking to bodies that have no souls!" Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, you do not hear, what I say better than they do." (Qatada said, "Allah brought them to life (again) to let them hear him, to reprimand them and slight them and take revenge over them and caused them to feel remorseful and regretful.")
[The above point of what Qatada said is not believed by majority of scholars]
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 314 And Anas b. Malik reported that: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) let the dead bodies of the unbelievers who fought in Badr (lie unburied) for three days. He then came to them and sat by their side and called them and said: O Abu Jahl b. Hisham, O Umayya b. Khalaf, O Utba b. Rab'ila, O Shaiba b. Rabi'a, have you not found what your Lord had promised with you to be correct? As for me, I have found the promises of my Lord to be (perfectly) correct. Umar listened to the words of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger, how do they listen and respond to you? They are dead and their bodies have decayed. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life, what I am saying to them, even you cannot hear more distinctly than they, but they lack the power to reply. Then'he commanded that they should be buried in the well of Badr.
They just lack the power to reply which can be heard.Rasoolallah salla lahu alaihi wa sallam never said they were brought back to life because Umar radiallah tala anhu already mentioned they were dead & bodies have decayed.
Salaam is sent expecting a reply, hence the dead hears & also replies to salaam.Salaam is dua which the dead does for the living the same way the dead prays to Allah to fulfil need of the alive when the alive requests the dead near his/her grave to pray to Allah.
Sahih Muslim, Book 002, Number 0483
Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr:
"Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard)." In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):" Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you."
>>
The living can keep the status of the deceased before Allah asking for the fulfillment of dua.
Asking others to supplicate
Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat): Detailed Injunctions about Witr
Dawud :: Book 8 : Hadith 1493
Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab:
I sought permission of the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) to perform umrah. He gave me permission and said: My younger brother, do not forget me in your supplication.
He (Umar) said: He told me a word that pleased me so much so that I would not have been pleased if I were given the whole world.
The narrator Shu'bah said: I then met Asim at Medina. He narrated to me this tradition and reported the wordings: "My younger brother, share me in your supplication."
Sunan of Abu-DawoodHadith 1493 Narrated byUmar ibn al-Khattab

He (Umar) said: He told me a word that pleased me so much so that I would not have been pleased if I were given the whole world. The narrator Shu'bah said: I then met Asim at Medina. 47:19. So know (O Muhammad SAW) that Lâ ilâha ill-Allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women. And Allâh knows well your moving about, and your place of rest (in your homes).
What is grave worship:
The modern day sufis go to graves & request the dead to fulfil their wishes for ex to get degrees,to get jobs etc.
They also says if you do such & such they will slaughter an animal or give something to the one who looks after the shrine.
Asking to pray is not graveworshiping Because saying salaam is commanded & what does salaam mean?Salaam is dua.Salaam means "May peace & blessings of Allah be upon them" so they reply back.Since salaam is dua they reply back by making dua for the living one who sent them salaam .
This is two way communication i.e you pray for them & they pray for you.
Send peace On Grave Occupants And Go To Graveyards
The Book of Prayers (Kitab Al-Salat) Muslim :: Book 4 : Hadith 2128
Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr:" Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard)." In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):" Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you."
*Note:After praying for grave occupants Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam also prayed for himself.
Imam Shaa'faiee states:
"I gain the blessings from the grave Imam Abu Hanifa and whenever I get into trouble, then I offer two rakats and then I visit his grave, and pray their for the solution, and ALHAMDO LILLAH my needs are always fulfilled." (Al-Khairatul Hassan Vol 1 Page 38, Tareekh Khateeb-e-Baghdadi Vol 1 Page 123, Raddul Mukhrat Vol 1 Page 38)
*Note:After parying for the deceased Muslims can pray for their need directly to Allah subhanawatala.
Imam Ahmed Bin Hunble states:
"When ever someone(i.e.muslim) died in Ansaar-e-Madina then they use to visit their graves and recite Quran Kareem on their graves". (Mirqaat Sharha Mishkaat, Vol 4, Page 81)
